Information for Prospective Undergraduates

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers two bachelor's degree programs:

Civil Engineering (BCE)
Environmental Engineering (BEE)

These challenging undergraduate curricula are designed to provide a strong foundation in the fundamentals of engineering science and mathematics while enabling students to pursue areas of individual interest. Unlike many other universities, UD engineering students are admitted directly into their major as freshmen and begin taking engineering courses during their first semester. This arrangement leaves ample time for specialized technical electives, research, and independent study during the final two years.

Qualified students in both the BCE and the BEE degree programs may also choose to pursue one of the Honors degree options.

Practical experience is considered a vital component of a Delaware engineering education. Both degree plans culminate in a senior design course that focuses on real-world engineering problems. Students are also encouraged to participate in internships to gain on-the-job experience.
