NEWARK, DE --- For the second straight week, the University
of Delaware men’s and women’s cross country teams captured
team titles as the Blue Hens swept the championship at the
Delaware Invitational #1 Saturday morning at White Clay Creek
State Park.
The Blue Hens, who each captured the Hofstra Invitational
title to open the season last week, posted the double win
again as the Delaware men had the top five individual
finishers led by medalist Kyle Schmid (right) to easily
outdistance the field and the UD women edged Towson to win
that team title.
The Delaware men, who had each of the top 10 individual
finishers last week vs. Hofstra, dominated the meet again with
15 points, well ahead of runner-up George Mason with 78
points. UNC Wilmington was third with 83 points followed by
Hofstra (94), Stockton (151), Wilmington (DE) College (191),
Delaware State (194), Coppin State (211), Lincoln (227), and
Morgan State (271).
The Blue Hen women, who won the title despite having just
two top 10 finishers, posted 51 points to edge Towson (53) by
just two points. UNC Wilmington was third with 63 points
followed by Hofstra (64), Morgan State (153), Stockton (165),
Delaware State (197), Wilmington (DE) College (242), Lincoln
(261), and Coppin State (299).
