Dalrymple Named to National Academy
Election to the National Academy is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Dalrymple was chosen for his contributions to theories and their application to coastal and ocean engineering. Dalrymple retired from UD as Edward C. Davis Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2003, after 30 years of service. At that time, he joined the faculty at The Johns Hopkins University as Willard & Lillian Hackerman Professor of Civil Engineering. He was accorded emeritus status at Delaware in 2004. Dalrymple
is a nationally recognized expert in coastal engineering, particularly
wave mechanics. He made distinguished contributions to teaching,
scholarship, and service during his long tenure at Delaware, including
founding the Center for Applied Coastal Research in 1989 and serving
as its Director until 2001. "We're
very pleased to learn of Tony's election to the National Academy,"
said Department Chair Michael Chajes. "He is very deserving
of this honor, and we're proud to claim him as an emeritus faculty
member here at UD, where he spent most of his academic career."
