DuPont
Hall Under Construction
Construction
of a new wing of DuPont Hall began during the summer of 2000. Nearly
60,000 square feet of space will be added to the building, which
is the long-time home of the Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering. The more than $20-million project will result in a
new facade that will be in line with other buildings facing the
university's central mall, completing the original designer's historic
plan for the mall.
Most
CEE faculty offices, classrooms, and labs will remain in their present
locations in the existing wing of DuPont Hall. CEE facilities in
the new wing will include the department's administrative offices,
a multipurpose meeting room, a student study/project room, and a
bridge design laboratory. In addition, the new wing will house the
College of Engineering Dean's Office and facilities for the Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Materials
Science and Engineering.
Construction
is expected to continue through May 2002. During this period, the
CEE Department's main office, as well as the Dean's Office, will
be located on the second floor of the Facilities Management building
on Academy Street.
