UD Student Chapter Competes at First ITE International Collegiate Traffic Bowl
The University of Delaware competed in the first ITE International Collegiate Traffic Bowl held on Wednesday, August 11 during the 2010 Annual Meeting and Exhibit in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
CEE graduate student honored by SWE
Michelle Oswald, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was awarded the 2010 Outstanding Collegiate Student Award from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Dr. Jane Smith, who earned her Ph.D. in 1996 in Ocean Engineering from the University of Delaware was recently awarded the ASCE Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award.
Third annual CEE alumni golf outing
The third annual UD CEE alumni golf outing was held on Friday October 15, 2010. Eighty golfers participated and helped raise money for scholarships for undergraduate civil and environmental majors.
Huang honored in Taiwan for lifetime acheivements
Former students paid tribute to the extraordinary accomplishments of C.P. Huang, Donald C. Phillips Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware, during a career retrospective workshop held Oct. 3-4 in Taichung, Taiwan.
Meehan appointed to national geotechnical council
Christopher Meehan, assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been elected to the board of directors for the United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research (USUCGER).
CEE graduate student LI wins national award
Sizheng Li, a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was one of six students nation wide to be awarded the PERISHIP Award, a Dissertation Fellowship in Hazards, Risk, and Disasters.
Chajes receives Distinguished Alum award
Michael Chajes, professor of civil engineering and dean of the College of Engineering, received the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Medal from the University of California, Davis. He was recognized at his alma mater's commencement exercises on June 11.
Development of modern bridge design code topic of Kerr Lecture
John Kulicki, chairman and CEO of Modjeski and Masters in Mechanicsburg, Pa., spoke on the development of the AASHTO Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology, which has gradually replaced more traditional design approaches for bridges.
Kobayashi receives ASCE award
Professor Nobuhisa Kobayashi has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 International Coastal Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The award was established in 1977 to provide international recognition for outstanding leadership and development in the field of coastal engineering.
Senior design receives national award
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has received top honors in a competition sponsored by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The award rewards college engineering programs for engaging their students in collaborative projects with licensed professional engineers.
CE students win national geotech competition
A team of civil engineering students took top honors in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Challenge Student Competition on Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall Construction.
Civil engineering students help restore wetland in Mississippi
Seven University of Delaware civil engineering students recently spent a week in Waveland, Miss., assisting in a wetlands restoration project. All are seniors and members of UD's chapter of Chi Epsilon, a national civil engineering honor society.

Civil engineering professor receives major grant for disaster risk management
Rachel Davidson, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware, has received a $796,255 grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop models that support the design of a regional natural disaster risk management system.
Leshchinsky win prestigious ASCE Kapp award
Dov Leshchinsky, professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware, has been selected to receive the 2010 Martin S. Kapp Foundation Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He will be recognized at GeoFlorida 2010, to be held in West Palm Beach, Fla., from Feb. 20-24.
