Tort Liability/Risk Management Workshop
October 15, 2009 - POSTPONED...NEW DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON
Kent Polytech Adult Education Center
823 Walnut Shade Rd., Woodside, DE 19980
Session: 1 Day, 8:00 - 4:00
Who should attend this course?
This program is designed to assist state and local transportation agency personnel in identifying the causes and effects of potential liability on project sites and how to avoid these situations and their implications. This is often referred to as “Risk Management.”
The focus of the workshop deals with understanding some of the major concepts and terms inherent to every liability situation and how it can impact the industry, the agency, and the individual employee. These concepts will be demonstrated and applied to some very common examples familiar to every transportation worker. Participants will have ample time for questions.
Workshop topics will include topics such as what is tort liability, who can be liable, who pays for injuries or damage, the application of Sovereign Immunity in Delaware, government and personal liability and how to avoid it, and the Delaware Tort Claims Act. We will emphasize a very practical approach to avoid legal responsibility and payment of damages.
Our instructor will be Mark McNulty, Esq., a practicing attorney in Dover and a retiree from DelDOT. During his career at DelDOT, he served as a deputy attorney general, director of DART, and secretary of the Department.
