Field Trips The University of Delaware is conveniently located in the heart of the northeast corridor, a one-hour drive from Philadelphia and Baltimore, and two hours from New York and Washington. This provides an excellent opportunity for educational and cultural field trips. Participants in the NSF-REU Program in Bridge Engineering travel to the International Bridge Conference in Pittsburgh and visit various manufacturing sites, bridge construction and field monitoring sites in Delaware and neighboring states, consulting firms, the Delaware Department of Transportation, the New York City Department of Transportation bridge sites and Circle Line Cruise. A highlight is a tour of the Delaware Memorial Bridge, the world's longest twin-span bridge, which provides a panoramic view of Delaware and neighboring Pennsylvania and New Jersey. |
