The Center for Innovative Bridge Engineering
at the University of Delaware

Goals

The Center provides a strong academic program for undergraduate and graduate students in bridge engineering, as well as continuing-education opportunities for practicing engineers. The Center's graduates have a strong background in bridge engineering and are well positioned to become leaders in the field.

Highlights of the educational component of the program include the following:

  • Courses — The University of Delaware offers a variety of structures- and materials-related courses applicable to the field of bridge engineering.

  • Research Opportunities — Students affiliated with the Bridge Center have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary research teams that include industrial partners, government agency representatives, and university faculty.

Graduate students — Research projects conducted through the Center typically include funding for graduate research assistants. For more information about current projects, visit our Projects page or contact individual faculty.

NSF-REU — For 10 weeks each summer, the Center hosts participants in the National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. This program immerses selected sophomores and juniors from around the nation in the Center's research and offers an array of enriching field trips and social activities.

Undergraduates — Research experiences for undergraduates range from 10-week full-time summer projects on campus to off-site internships. Students may also work on research projects during the academic year for pay or credit. For more information, visit the web site for UD's Undergraduate Research Program.

  • Continuing Education — The Center organizes short courses, workshops, conferences, and symposiums to provide continuing-education benefits to its partners and the bridge engineering community at large. See our Events page for upcoming offerings.
